Spring Creek, a tributary of the Fox River is located in Northeastern Illinois.  Spring Creek watershed begins in Fox River Grove and travels approximately 12 miles through McHenry, Lake, Kane, and Cook Counties.  There are nearly 15,000 acres of land in the watershed with land uses ranging from Agricultural to commercial, rural estate homes, densely populated residential, and forest preserve district lands.  Residents living in this area total approximately 25,000.

The Spring Creek Watershed partnership was formed in 2010 to create a plan for the region involving local stakeholders.  Local watershed plans have been supported and encouraged by utilizing Section 319 Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) funding and recommendations for creating a watershed based plan that allows local stakeholders to have input in the future of their region.  Local watershed plans are recognized nationally as important tools for long-term water protection, and for bringing funding back to the area to implement watershed protection projects.
